I’ve always been curious about one simple question:
Why do people choose the careers they do… and why do some of those choices work out better than others?
This question has shaped my entire career.
It led me to complete a Master’s Degree in Research Psychology, during which I focused on career maturity among first-year students. During this critical stage, many important decisions are made, often without the right guidance. That work opened the door to a deeper understanding of how people make career choices. And how they often do it with limited information, under pressure from others, and filled with uncertainty about themselves.
From there, I completed an internship at the University of Johannesburg’s Center for Career Counselling and became a registered psychometrist. Why? Simply because it gave me standardized and proven tools to help people make better career choices. And because I obtained the experience and expertise to use these tools effectively. I began working directly with individuals seeking clarity about their futures.
During my long career in Human Resources, I worked at the intersection of people, careers, and real-world job requirements, helping individuals make clearer, more informed decisions about their futures. During these years, I gained insight into a wide range of careers. And I learned a lot about:
- what careers actually require — not just in theory, but in practice,
- the personal skills needed to succeed,
- the interpersonal demands of different roles,
- the pressures in different work situations,
- the day-to-day realities people often don’t consider, and
- the psychological fit required for long-term sustainability.
Having conducted hundreds of interviews and placing people in real-life jobs, I gained a clear understanding of:
- how employers evaluate candidates,
- what makes someone stand out,
- and how candidates present themselves effectively.
During my work with clients, one pattern came up again and again:
People often make career decisions based on limited (often incomplete) or misleading information.
Common patterns may include:
- choosing a career based only on academic results,
- following family expectations and pressure,
- not fully understanding what a job actually involves day-to-day, and
- feeling stuck, frustrated, uncertain, or unfulfilled. Or even the need to start over.
A more informed way forward on your career path
My role is to help you slow the process down – and make better-informed, well-aligned career decisions.
And I will never treat it as if it is about quick answers or generic advice. Because it is not!
To me, it is about a process where we build a clear, structured understanding of:
- who you are,
- what fits you,
- and what will work for you over time.
When your decisions are based on both self-insight and accurate career information, your chances of long-term success increase significantly.
In the end, you are not just choosing a job.
You’re building a direction for your future based on your understanding of:
- your strengths,
- your preferences,
- your personality,
- and what actually fits you.
When you understand yourself and your options, better career decisions follow.
I help you gain that clarity – and use it.
And if you choose a path based on these realities, it will be more sustainable and meaningful.
Who I Work With in career counselling
Career decisions don’t only happen once. It evolves. Mostly because people and circumstances inevitably change.
And I like to work with people in all seasons of their career lives:
- learners and students trying to choose a career path,
- young adults questioning their current direction,
- professionals considering a career change,
- and those later in their careers seeking meaningful and sustainable next steps.
Career counselling support for the next step: Interview Preparation
If you’ve been invited to an interview but feel unsure about how to prepare or present yourself, I can help with that too.
My approach is not about “performing” or pretending to be someone you’re not. It is about being well-prepared and aligned. It’s about helping you show the best version of yourself – honestly and confidently.
It includes:
- how to approach interviews with clarity and confidence,
- how to communicate your value effectively,
- and how to present the best version of yourself in an honest, grounded way,
How I work when I do career counselling
I approach this process with care and compassion.
And I work in a way that is structured… practical… and focused on you as a person.
I create a professional, confidential space where you can:
- think clearly,
- explore your options,
- and make decisions with greater confidence.
If you ask me what I’m all about, I will tell you: “Good career decisions don’t happen by chance. They are built on the right information, the right process, and the right insight.”
That is the work we do together.
